Excursion to BASF in Ludwigshafen

At the end of the design project in the winter semester 2024/25, our group had the opportunity to take part in an excursion to our industrial partner BASF in Ludwigshafen. The aim was to gain insights into the processes of the chemical industry and to discuss the results of the project with experts on site.

At the beginning of the excursion, the students presented the results of their project work entitled "Design of a plant for recycling sodium sulphate". The students presented their concepts to an expert team of scientists and engineers and received valuable feedback. The direct exchange with the experts made it possible to link the theoretical approaches from their studies with the practical requirements of industry.

A particular highlight of the excursion was the visit to a mini-plant for methane pyrolysis and a detailed tour of various BASF laboratories. The students gained exciting insights into current research work and industrial processes. In addition, BASF's experienced specialists were available to answer numerous questions and provided practical insights into the company's work processes.

Overall, the excursion to BASF was an extremely enriching experience. Through the combination of technical discussions, plant tours and practical insights, we were able to expand our knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the chemical industry.
