Introduction into Process Balancing
Module Description:
The students will learn:
- Vectorial formulation of balance equations for conservation of mass, heat and momentum
- Definition of balance spaces
- Differential and unsteady-state balances
- Reactive sources and sinks
- Combined heat and mass balances
- Solution techniques for linear and non-linear algebraic balance equations
- Illustration of balancing principles in chemical engineering with examples drawn from thermodynamics , fluid mechanics , transport processes , reaction engineering , thermal and mechanical unit operations
In the tutorials the subject matter of the lecture will be treated using a variety of illuminating examples from different chemical engineering areas. Both analytical and numerical methods to solve the balance equations will be applied.
